This well-established annual meeting updates senior orthopaedic surgeons in new trauma philosophies and techniques. It runs from Wednesday 15 to Friday 17 August 2011.
This year’s subject areas include the treatment of major trauma, pelvic and acetabular fractures, the growing problem of fragility fractures and the management of the elderly trauma patient. In addition, advances in the treatment of fractures of the ankle, scaphoid and distal femur, and the management of open tibial fractures will be discussed (Download Programme).
The successful format of small group discussions, demonstrations and hands-on sessions will be maintained and delegates will be able to discuss a range of related topics with a faculty of international and national experts including Dr David Ring from Boston and Dr Adam Starr from Dallas, Texas.
The meeting will be particularly useful for consultants approaching revalidation in orthopaedic trauma.
International Faculty
- Dr David Ring (2012 Vanderpool Lecturer)
is Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School, and is the Director of Research of the Orthopaedic Hand and Upper Extremity Service at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He has a worldwide reputation for his research and teaching in the field of hand and upper limb injuries, and also has a major interest in the psychosocial aspects of illness. He has published widely in the literature and is the deputy editor for both the Journal of Hand Surgery and the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma. - Dr Thomas Higgins is Associate Professor at theUniversity ofUtah. He has particular interests in intra-articular fractures and in injuries to the pelvis and acetabulum, as well as non-union and mal-union correction. He has contributed widely to the literature and is a renowned educator.
- Dr Tim Schepers is an orthopaedic surgeon at the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam. He has a major interest in fractures of the hindfoot and midfoot and has contributed widely to the literature.
- Dr Adam Starr is Associate Professor in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Southwestern Medical Centre atDallas,USA. He is well known worldwide for his research and teaching in the field of pelvic and acetabular surgery. He has also published widely on the subjects of femoral nailing, limb reconstruction and the psychological response to trauma.
- Dr Alastair Younger is Clinical Associate Professor and the Director of the British Columbia Foot and Ankle Clinic inVancouver,Canada. He has a particular interest in injuries to, and reconstruction of, the foot and ankle.
