Road Traffic Accidents
-
Did you know that 80% of those injured in road traffic accidents have serious orthopaedic injury?
-
Major and multiple injury is the most common cause of fatalities for those under 40 years and the third most common cause of death overall.
-
Every year over 100,000 people in the United Kingdom have major residual disability after a fracture.
-
A badly treated fracture can keep someone off work for a year or longer.
-
Orthopaedic Injury ruins lives.
RESEARCH can improve the chances of survival and recovery with the intermediate benefit of less distress and suffering, for both patients and relatives. There would be long term advantage from financial savings within the family and the community by better and faster healing. Medical staff in orthopaedics and associated disciplines would have maximum information on the best possible treatment for the patient at every stage of surgery and rehabilitation.
Elderly
-
Did you know that the number of broken hips is expected to double within the next 25 years and that about half of those over 65 will suffer some form of orthopaedic injury? There are more elderly people in the country than ever before and the trend is increasing.
-
The elderly are a group particularly at risk from osteoporosis which is also a major factor in wrist and shoulder fractures.
RESEARCH can improve the quality of life after treatment and also help this group of the population to benefit by understanding more about preventative measures.
Everyday and Sporting Activity
-
One Million people break a bone each year in the United Kingdom.
-
Did you know that orthopaedic injury is a common misfortune for somebody, somewhere, everyday and that while it is usually connected with sporting and more energetic activity, it can just as easily occur in the home or working quietly in the office?
-
A desire to be fit and healthy leads many of us into extra effort and regrettably even perfectly normal activities can result in accidents. Whether at work, playing sport, doing the gardening or just quietly fishing, orthopaedic injury is a common misfortunes for somebody, somewhere, everyday of the week.
RESEARCH will benefit us as individual patients by promoting better healing and faster recovery while the gain for employers, insurers and community will be two-fold. The reduction in lost man-hours and the saving in the money needed for patient care, by quicker return to full activity, will benefit everyone.Supporting SORT-IT can be achieved by granting of SORT-IT share options.
