Trauma Course

The trauma course will run from Monday 13 August  to Friday 17 August. This popular course provides education in orthopaedic trauma for surgeons in training, senior orthopaedic nurses and senior physiotherapists. It is also useful for experienced orthopaedic surgeons who wish to update their knowledge of orthopaedic trauma.

The level of the course is particularly useful for surgeons preparing for their orthopaedic fellowship examinations.

During the five day course all aspects of orthopaedic trauma will be covered by an experienced faculty of international and national experts. The format comprises lectures, small group discussions and hands-on labs (Download Programme).

INTERNATIONAL FACULTY

  • Dr David Ring is Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School, and is the Director of Research of the Orthopaedic Hand and Upper Extremity Service at the Massachusetts GeneralHospital.  He has a worldwide reputation for his research and teaching in the field of hand and upper limb injuries, and also has a major interest in the psychosocial aspects of illness.  He has published widely in the literature and is the deputy editor for both the Journal of Hand Surgery and The Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma.
  •  Dr Thomas Higgins is Associate Professor at the University of Utah.  He has particular interests in intra-articular fractures and in injuries to the pelvis and acetabulum, as well as non-union and mal-union correction.  He has contributed widely to the literature and is a renowned educator.
  •  Dr Tim Schepers is an orthopaedic surgeon at the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam.  He has a major interest in fractures of the hindfoot and midfoot and has contributed widely to the literature.
  •  Dr Adam Starr is Associate Professor in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Southwestern Medical Centre at Dallas,USA.  He is well known worldwide for his research and teaching in the field of pelvic and acetabular surgery.  He has also published widely on the subjects of femoral nailing, limb reconstruction and the psychological response to trauma.
  •  Dr Alastair Younger is Clinical Associate Professor and the Director of the British Columbia Foot and Ankle Clinic in Vancouver, Canada.  He has a particular interest in injuries to, and reconstruction of, the foot and ankle.
